Hello everyone, I'm glad to announce that the prestigious OU Tournament Circuit will return in 2020! The circuit will consist of official tournaments and unofficial circuit tournaments in order to determine who is qualified to compete in the OU Championship at the end of the year. The winner of the OU Championship will receive a red ribbon. The circuit will consist of the following tours (keep in mind these are the Round 1 dates, meaning that sign-ups will start 1 week prior to the start date).
WINTER:
Official Smogon Tournament XVI - January 13th
SPRING:
OU Spring Seasonal - March 2nd
Smogon Tour 29 - March 13th
OU Stour Tour - May 4th
FALL:
Official Ladder Tournament VII - August 5th
OU Fall Seasonal - August 10th
Smogon Tour 30 - September 18th
OU Championship II - December 7th
We will be using the point system explained in this thread with Type A, B and C Tournaments having a maximum of 2400, 1600 and 800 equivalent points respectively.
Type A Tournaments:
- Official Smogon Tournament: The first tournament of the year and an official one as well. The format is a Bo3 SS OU Single Elimination tournament and the winner will also be awarded a golden trophy.
- OU Spring Seasonal: The first of two seasonals. Each seasonal will have a Bo3 Double Elimination format, in which players get a second chance at victory after losing a series. Due to the double elimination format, this tournament will have a longer running course than the other tournaments.
- OU Fall Seasonal: The second best of three double elimination tournament, and the last single elimination tournament in the circuit. As stated above, this seasonal will also have a lengthy run time due to the double elimination format.
- OU Stour Tour: The Stour Tour is a Bo3 Single Elimination tournament that mimics the Smogon Tour playoffs format, with the 3 most recent OU gens being played. This year it will include SS OU, SM OU, and ORAS OU.
- Official Ladder Tournament: The infamous Official Ladder Tournament will be our second Type B tournament. It was previously a Type A tournament, but after some discussion, we decided to move it to Type B. This was mainly due to the Stour Tour being the only Type B tournament. The Official Ladder Tournament involves a qualification phase taking place in the dangerous SS OU Ladder for 4 weeks, followed by playoffs. Points will be given to those that qualify for the 32-man playoffs. This tournament is known for bringing new names to the tour scene, and gives them a chance at the second current generation OU individual trophy of the year.
- Smogon Tour 29: Points earned in the official SS OU live tours of Smogon Tour will count towards the OU circuit. Points will be distributed for the overall performance among SS OU smogon tournaments. Note that SM OU and ORAS live tour performances will not be taken into consideration as they are part of the Ruins of Alph circuits.
- Smogon Tour 30: The second season of Smogon Tour and the last tournament to start before the championship. Points from SS OU live Smogon Tour points will count towards the circuit.
